Why Soy Wax – The Facts

Most candles are made from paraffin wax. Paraffin wax can release carcinogenic soot when burned as the wax is derived from petroleum, coal or oil shale. Therefore the soot released can lead to respiratory problems existing asthma, lung or heart problems. If that wasn't enough, the soot released has been known to lead to damage of your house and electrical appliances. Safety, quality and sustainability would sum up the reasons we have chosen Soy wax, in more detail soy candles are:

- Are easy to clean, your candle holders or any split wax can be cleaned with just soap & water, also allowing easy refilling of candle jars and tins.

- Have a much lower melting point than paraffin wax therefore soy wax burns slower, lasting up to 50% longer and reduce burn risk.

- L+C Soy Candles contain no genetically modified material, no paraffin, no unnatural additives and are kosher.

- Clean burning with no carcinogenic soot, often a result of paraffin was candles.

- Supporting Farmers by using soybean products.

- Biodegradable since soybeans are vegetables, the product is naturally biodegradable.

SOYA candles by Lily & Charlie are hand poured in small batches to ensure quality of product and fragrance. We use glass jars and tins which are also handy for travel.

A love and enchantment with the candle has inspired L+C to provide a product that also held that same quality, sustainability and provide it safely for the family to enjoy. The knowledge of the harm for ourselves and the environment of paraffin wax really spoils the wonderful tapestry to the candle. This led to the choice of Soy wax and soft natural fragrances used in the making of L+C’s Soya range

Instructions for SOYA

Candles have various burn times depending on the size of the candle but this is also affected by candle care. For the best results from your Soya candle, trim your wick to 1/4 inch before every burn and do not burn for more than 4 hours at any one time. The wicks are made from cotton and are designed to 'mushroom' at the top after burning; for best results, remove this before lighting again. Be sure to allow burning time to melt the wax to the edge of the container in each session to ensure an even burn using all the available wax and maximising the life of your candle. A smoking candle or black marks left on the container indicate your wick is too long; to amend extinguish the candle and trim the wick to a length of 4mm to 1/4 of an inch.

Safety Notes:

Please never leave your burning candle unattended. Make sure it is out of reach of children & pets and is within your eye sight.
